Future Human teams up with Diesel

Join us on Tuesday May 24 in Shoreditch for a special Diesel event on the future of peak oil.

Diesel-Island-Parallax-New

On Tuesday May 24, Future Human is jetting off to Diesel Island, the idyllic colony created by the clothing brand of the same name. We’re presenting an evening entitled ‘Island Life in the Post-Oil World’, where we’ll be exploring how the concept of peak oil is affecting the globe, and how we can create technology and adapt our lifestyles to mitigate against it.

Ok, so it’s not on an actual island, but in RED Gallery on Rivington Street in Trendy East London, from 7-9pm. If you’ve been to one of our Future Human events before, you’ll know what to expect: pioneering ideas, brain-expanding discussion, fairly amusing presentations and big-screen Twitter beefs. But this one is going to be slightly different – instead of a panel discussion, we’re going to be having an extended audience collaboration session, exploring what peak oil is, what’s being done about it, and most importantly, how we think the world might change for better and worse.

And the best part of all is that it’s absolutely free! All you need to do is head to any Diesel store and pick up a Diesel Island passport. The more events you visit in the Diesel Island series, the more ‘Visas’ you get added to your passport, and the more promotions and events you get access to. Some of the other events look excellent: we highly recommend going to ‘DIY Independent Publishing’ organised by the fantastic Nobrow, i-D’s ‘Customisation Class’ with Katie Eary, and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs giving ‘Island Dance Lessons’.

From travelling wave nuclear reactors to solar panels printed onto paper, ‘transition culture’ to electric car networks, our world is changing to respond to  the challenges of oil dependency. Find out how, and offer your own thoughts, at ‘Island Life in the Post-Oil World’. According to Diesel, it’ll probably look something like this:
