Number five in the Future Human podcast series is Immersion Drama, which explores a new paradigm in storytelling that prioritises interaction and personal experience. From one-on-one theatre to multiple-strand video game narratives, stereoscopic 3D film to transmedia projects that invite us to participate in the physical world and on the web, we’re seeing professional storytellers expand the horizons of fiction.

Joining the team in the Future Human studio to discuss how this new storytelling style is manifesting itself are Paul Bennun, the creative head of production company Somethin’ Else, who have created tens of exciting projects including ‘video game with no video’ Papa Sangre; and Lynn Goh and Simone Kenyon, producers at the ever-innovative Battersea Arts Centre, and curators of the Distance festival which is currently running in Newcastle.

Amongst other things, we hear about pioneering software business models, the thrill of getting naked with an audience, and the quest for high art in video gaming. It’s 39 minutes of fascinating discussion about the challenges and possibilities of immersive storytelling, and an essential listen for anyone with an interest in the future of narrative entertainment.
