A brand new episode of The Future Human Podcast is available to listen to below, and it’s a very special edition: 40+ minutes of discussion with Deyan Sudjic, the head of the Design Museum and Britain’s foremost design thinker.

In conversation with Future Human’s Ben Beaumont-Thomas and Jack Roberts, Deyan considers the concept of Grok Design: an intermingled design intelligence that is revolutionising today’s business practices. By bringing together product design, strategy, marketing and engineering to work concurrently, companies like Apple and organisations like NASA are putting design at the heart of their operations – the potential gains are harmonious products and services, as well as a smoothly running company with a powerful ethos and vision.

Deyan shows how this dynamic blend of entrepreneur and designer allowed companies like Olivetti and Braun to create beautiful and successful products; how designers can use narrative to give their work meaning; and how the advent of digital culture is potentially allowing for “guilt-free consumption”. We also hear from the panellists at our Future Human salon on the topic, which took place earlier this year: James Moed of international design firm IDEO, and award-winning industrial designer Sam Wilkinson, who both share their thoughts on how great collaborative design can come about.
