The first Future Human event of 2011, on Wednesday February 9, is Data Journalism, a discursive and insightful look into a fundamental shift in 21st-century information and power exchange. As per usual it’s happening at The Book Club in Shoreditch, London, from 7 until 9.30pm, and there will be all the regular challenging debates, expert guests, enlightening primers, audience participation, big screen Twitter beefs, and low-level boozing.

From the sifting of the MP expenses scandal files, to the reams of documents posted online by Wikileaks, raw data has never been as important or significant for the news media, and indeed society, and our panel for the evening is suitably well-versed in these unprecedented ructions. Mark Stephens is a partner at law firm FSI, and is currently representing Julian Assange in his legal battles against extradition; Ben Leapman is one of the three journalists who helped break the 2009 MP expenses scandal; and Martin Moore is the director of the Media Standards Trust.
